12/02/09

South Pacific Pictures has received 18 nominations in the TV Guide Best on the Box awards, 2009, the largest people’s choice awards in the country.

Outrageous Fortune has 10 nominations in various categories including Best Drama, four Best Actor nominations (Grant Bowler, Antony Starr, Tammy Davis and Frank Whitten) and two Best Actress nominations (Robyn Malcolm and Antonia Prebble).

Last year’s winner, Robyn Malcolm has again been nominated for Sexiest Woman among five other personalities. Antony Starr is again in the running for Sexiest Man and so is his co-star and first time nominee, Kirk Torrance. Both are in competition with TV ONE newsreader Simon Dallow, Sexiest Man winner for six consecutive years.

Shortland Street has an impressive six nominations including Best Drama. Johnny Barker and Renato Bartolomei are in the running for Best Actor, joining Bowler, Starr, Davis and Whitten; Outrageous Fortune and Shortland Street therefore dominate all six slots.

Laura Hill and Toni Potter both have Best Actress nominations. Ben Mitchell is again in the running for Sexiest Man.

New Zealand’s Got Talent received two nominations including Best Variety Show and Best Presenter (General) (Andrew Mulligan).

It is now up to the viewing public to decide who is the hottest of them all, and all voters will go into the draw to win one of five Myfreeview Personal Video Recorders (PRV) valued at $1000 each. In last year’s competition in excess of 11,000 readers cast more than 250,000 votes across 25 categories for their favourite New Zealand TV personalities and shows.

As with all Best on the Box Awards, the title of the Sexiest Man on TV will be decided by popular vote – with all television viewers able to register their choice. They can vote through forms in the February 12 and 19 issues of the TV Guide.  Voting closes on March 6th at 5pm.

The winner of all of the TV Guide Best On the Box Awards will be announced in the March 19 issue of the magazine.
