First airing in 1992, Shortland Street celebrates 20 years in 2012.
On June 6th, 2008, Shortland Street celebrated a milestone 4000th episode. In commemoration of this special occasion, South Pacific Pictures, producers of Shortland Street, joined forces with the Department of Conservation in planting 4000 native New Zealand trees on the island of Motutapu, in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
With around 40% of all viewers tuning in every night, Shortland Street is regularly the number one show in target demographics 18-39 and Household Shoppers wth children.
