South Pacific Studios is located in West Auckland’s Waitakere region, just off Auckland’s North Western Motorway – a short 10 minute drive from Auckland’s CBD.
Auckland is New Zealand’s largest and most cosmopolitan city, with a population of more than 1 million people, including the world’s largest Polynesian community.
Situated between two spectacular natural harbours, the city and its environs brim with a range of diverse location possibilities.
The West Auckland region is home to some of the North Island’s most spectacular scenery, from dramatic black sand beaches, rolling dunes and inland lakes to picturesque settlements and native forest, all within easy access from South Pacific Studios.
The region has provided the backdrop to a variety of major film and television productions, including The Piano, Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
The South Pacific Studios complex houses Auckland’s only purpose-built sound stages, together with amenities to service and support productions.

The studios are designed for 65STC acoustic isolation and acoustically treated for drama recording. Floors are seamless concrete, designed for camera tracking. The studios are fitted with a pipe grid system at 2.4m centres, 6m above the studio floor. Air conditioning is designed to strict noise levels and for studio lighting loads. 400A of 3 phase power is available in the studios and adjacent dimmer rooms. External 3 phase power is provided for outside broadcast trucks.

Each studio has the following dedicated facilities: • Dimmer room with separate air conditioning • Makeup room: space for 3 makeup artists, with hair washing facilities • Wardrobe room (approx 7m x 7m) with laundry facilities • Kitchen with dishwasher, fridge, microwave
Shared facilities: • Reception area for Production Offices • 11 dressing rooms • 2 showers • Actors green room • On-site café - experienced caterers available for studio or location shoots • Secure locking compound, access control system and CCTV
Two carparks: • A - 16 spaces • B - 40 spaces • Additional parking available at rear of studio - 8 spaces
Production Space: 3 production spaces - all lockable, with power, phone jacks, facility for fax and modem, air-conditioning, windows for natural light (extra lighting provided by fluorescent fittings), basic office furniture

This area is divided into 4 lockable storage cages each measuring 3.5m x 8m. Each cage is fitted with adjustable pallet racking, allowing 2 rows per cage. There is a 3m-wide aisle between the rows of pallet racking within the cage, allowing space for the use of a fork-hoist.
Offices and storage rooms The remaining area of 90sqm has been divided into offices and lockable storage rooms. There is a mezzanine floor which mirrors the rooms below. • Downstairs there is one office (3m x 4m), and three storage rooms ( 3m x 6m). • The toilets and shower are also located downstairs. • Upstairs there is the second office, the lunchroom and three more storage rooms matching those below. • The offices and lunchroom have single phase power and phone jacks - the storage rooms have neither. • The mezzanine area is reached by a single set of wide stairs, designed for easy transportation of large objects.
External areas • 18 designated carparks • 9m gantry for construction waste available at production's cost • Cold water available with a paint washing area and stainless steel tub • Easy truck access through large lockable gates • Flat area for loading and unloading • Easy access to studios for relocating sets and props
