Cammy Anders is an intense 13 year-old who seems to be suffering from bulimia. She lives in a motel in a small coastal town with her brother Jason, an introverted kid who takes refuge in building intricate matchstick houses, and her mother Barbara, who is searching for a new start for her family in the form of a decent man. Cammy resents her mother's interest in men and is jealous of the secret friendship between Jason and one of the hotel's other residents, Paul. She craves attention from them both, and with increasing desperation, tries to manipulate the relationships around her. When Jason and Paul try to reveal that Cammy's desire to self-destruct has now taken a new turn to self-mutilation, Cammy strikes back by making allegations that Paul has been molesting Jason. But her attack against Paul only results in her feeling more isolated. Her fears of being alone and having to keep the secret of her past lead Cammy to one final act of destruction.
