New Zealand's smash hit comedy SIONE'S WEDDING has had an outstanding opening week in Italy where it has just been released.

The film, which is titled SAMOAN WEDDING internationally, took out the seventh spot at the Italian box office in the week of 13-19 July.

John Barnett, South Pacific Pictures Chief Executive and producer of SIONE'S WEDDING, said: "As we'd always hoped, this is a story that people anywhere in the world can understand."

SIONE'S WEDDING drew over $4 million at the New Zealand box office last year.

South Pacific Pictures' next feature film, WE'RE HERE TO HELP, is a Kafkaesque comedy about one man's David-and-Goliath battle with the bureaucratic machine. Based on the real-life story of Christchurch businessman Dave Henderson, the film is due for release in New Zealand on November 8 this year.
