NZ Idol 2

Entertainment series (2005)
TV2, New Zealand
Synopsis

From the thousands of hopefuls who auditioned, songstress Rosita Vai won public affection and was named the second NZ Idol in October 2005.

Rosita had consistently impressed judges Frankie Stevens, Jackie Clark and Paul Ellis as well as the voting public.

The final announcement was made at the end of the live series finale that included the return of all of the top 10 finalists plus some favourites from earlier in the competition.

Rosita's single 'All I Ask' debuted at number 1 and sold platinum in its first week. It remained in the number one spot for two weeks and top 10 for four weeks.

In 2006, Rosita won the Tui award for Highest Selling NZ Single at the 2006 New Zealand Music Awards for her song 'All I Ask'.

South Pacific Pictures produced NZ Idol in conjunction with Grundy Television in Australia. The series was commissioned by Television New Zealand's TV2 network.

Since the original Pop Idol screened in the UK in 2001, more than a dozen countries have screened local versions of the format.
